Backpack Program

Volunteers packing foodBackpack Program

Serving Antrim, Charlevoix, and Emmet Counties The "Food 4 Kids" Backpack Program provides shelf-stable, nutritious food for children over the weekend who otherwise may not have enough to eat when they are not receiving school breakfast and lunch.

A typical backpack might include low fat milk, 100% juice, cereal, granola, applesauce, fruit snacks and chicken Ramen noodles. Manna distributes 2,200 back packs each week to area preschool and elementary school age children. This program is highly recognized by children where the packs are distributed. Manna volunteers receive group hugs, sweet comments, stories and cheerful thank yous from the children when they deliver to these schools.

Snack Packs Summer Program

During the summer months Manna distributes "snack packs" to children. Snack packs are a downsized version of the backpack and provide some extra food for children when they are home and not receiving school breakfast and lunch. Snack packs are assembled much like the Backpack at Manna by the many hands of volunteers. Partner agencies distribute them during their pantry hours.
